The unit you see is the easy part; the venting geometry, the gas-train sizing, the framing clearances, and the termination placement are what decide whether you get twenty quiet years of clean heat or a callback every winter. We start before a single tool comes out, with a load-and-venting plan. Direct-vent and sealed-combustion units live or die by their vent run — every elbow, every foot of rise, every inch of horizontal travel changes the restrictor-plate setting and the draft. We size the coaxial or co-linear pipe to the install manual's vent table, set the flue restrictor to your elevation and run length, and pick a termination — flush, snorkel, or high-wind hood — that won't nuisance-trip in a gusty spot. Getting all of that right on paper is why our installs burn clean from the very first light instead of needing three seasons of "tuning."

The gas side is engineered, not improvised. We size the flex connector and CSST to the appliance BTU load, install the code-required sediment trap ahead of the shutoff, add the bonding clamp on corrugated stainless tubing, and pressure-test the whole drop with a manometer before we ever introduce flame. For inserts dropping into an existing masonry firebox, we run a dedicated, correctly-sized liner from the appliance collar to the cap — a true positive connection — rather than venting into an open flue that condenses and back-drafts. That single decision is the most common difference between an install that lasts and one that doesn't.

Framing and finish get the same care. Zero-clearance and ventless fireboxes are framed to the manufacturer's combustible clearances exactly — we don't shave them — and the hearth extension and surround meet code projection. We seal the glass front and its barrier gasket so the unit holds its negative-pressure draft, fit the surround and louvers cleanly, and install the ASTM F2972 barrier on any unit that requires a safety screen. Then we commission the install: manometer-verify inlet and manifold pressure, set high-low flame-height calibration, run the blower and snap-disc, and finish with an ambient CO check while the unit is firing.

We install the full range — direct-vent sealed inserts, vent-free fireboxes with ODS-protected log sets, see-through and two-sided units for room dividers, freestanding direct-vent gas stoves, and premium linear contemporary fireplaces with glass or fire-glass media. And we wire up the controls homeowners actually ask for: thermostatic remote and receiver kits, millivolt wall thermostats, smart Wi-Fi modules, and battery-backup packs so the fireplace still lights when the power's out.
